Allergy Clinic Yorkshire.


Airedale Allergy Centre was established in 1985 by Dr D J Maberly FRCP, Consultant Physician. It grew to become a leading treatment centre for those suffering from allergies, intolerances and chemical sensitivities, with a team of dedicated and highly experienced staff treating patients from across the UK as well as Europe, the USA and elsewhere. Many patients were referred by the NHS, and some were treated in the 12-bedded Environmentally Controlled Inpatient Unit if their problems were particularly complex.

Changes in NHS funding structures in 1999 led to the closure of the inpatient facility, but the outpatient service remains as busy as ever, and patients continue to benefit from the experience of the staff. Dr Maberly retired in March 2001 and has been succeeded by Dr Apelles Econs MRCS LRCP, who also has many years of experience treating allergic patients in both NHS and private medicine.

Over the years the nursing and medical staff of the clinic have been involved in making TV and radio programmes about allergy, published books and professional articles, lectured at hospitals and universities, carried out research and worked on projects with local authority environmental health departments. The philosophy of the clinic has always been to practice environmental medicine within a proper medical framework to ensure the highest standards of care.
